Program Overview
Rationale for Acacemic UpGrade Program (AUGP)
During the first Trimester of the 2009-2010 school year, we learned that a large number of students didn't think "Its Cool to be Smart."
Case in point: In reviewing the previous year's final grade reports we found that over fifty students had GPA's that qualified them for the National Honor Society. When the NHS sponsor invited them to join the NHS, only fifteen (15) completed the NHS application. In an effort to get students to perceive their academic success in a positive manner the AUGP was established in January 2010.

AUGP Purpose and History
The primary purpose of the AUGP is two-fold. First, to sensitize students to the importance of their academic achievement, secondly, to help students develop acceptable social skills and attendance patterns.
The AUGP was established during the second Trimester of the 2009/2010 school year. The initial enrollment was 35 students, and 85% successfully completed the program and were rewarded with a trip to Six Flags Great America in Gurney, Illinois.
The second year 2010/2011, the AUGP enrollment was increased to 53 students, 85% of whom successfully met the academic requirements of the program. Thirty seven students were rewarded with a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit Howard University and the nation's capitol.
It is anticipated that the AUGP's enrollment will be eighty plus students for the 2011/2012 school year.
